Cornmarket Advanced Motorcyclists

The Cornmarket Advanced Motorcyclists was founded in September 2010 by a group of like-minded people who saw the opportunity to capitalise on the great work already being done by BikeSafe and encourage more riders to go on and complete the IAM Advanced Riding test.
A number of these expert Police riders hold positions on the group committee and lend their expertise in observing and training to ensure the highest standards are met. The Cornmarket Advanced Motorcyclists delivers the IAM’s Skills for Life Programme which prepares each rider for the test through regular one-to-one sessions with a qualified IAM Observer and various group ride-outs and seminars.

Affiliated to the Institute of Advanced Motorists. (Group 8268)

Emphasis is progressive riding through one-to-one observed rides. We operate a mentoring system with associates being paired with an Observer from the group. The Observer will arrange a suitable timetable to ensure the associates gets the most out of each observed run. We also meet on a weekly basis where observers can swap associates offering additional support and encouragement, offering a more rounded educational experience.

We aim to have associates test ready between 6 & 8 weeks (though each associate will be assessed on individual standard and skill level).

Venue: Office of Cornmarket Insurance Services, 1st Floor Boucher Plaza, 4-6 Boucher Road, Belfast.
Date: Every Saturday morning 0930 and every Wednesday evening 1830.
We offer free 1hr ride assessments to bikers who are considering joining IAM.

We have a training team consisting of National Observers, Senior Observers and Local Observers.

**Qualified observers and existing IAM members are more than welcome to come along and join the Cornmarket Advanced Motorcyclists.

The Cornmarket Advanced Motorcyclists was officially formed on 9 September 2010, with the IAM’s Group Support Manager, Dave Shenton and Chief Executive, Simon Best, both present to sanction the Group, adding it to the growing number of volunteer IAM Groups across the UK. Group President is Stephen Watson from the BBC, with Gary McComb of Bikesafe as Chairperson.

The Group officially launched at the Adelaide Motorcycle Festival at the Kings Hall, Belfast in February 2011. Group President and motorcycle legend, Phillip McCallen was on hand to officially announce that the Adelaide Advanced Motorcyclists were now actively taking on members. From then, the group has been grown from strength to strength.

The main focus of the Cornmarket Advanced Motorcyclists is to help make riders safer and more responsible on our roads. Emphasis is on progressive riding and staying one step ahead of other road users by knowing how to predict hazards and accurately assess road and traffic conditions. Once a rider passes the IAM Advanced Riding Test, they will be a more controlled, confident, and ultimately, a better rider.
