AMNI (IAM Region 8) History

Advanced Motorists of Northern Ireland is a collection of motoring groups, each operating as individual charitable organisations affiliated to the IAM.

Within the IAM, Northern Ireland (Region 8) is the smallest region in the UK comprising just 5 groups and one sub group. Formerly part of Region 6 (Scotland), we were promoted by the IAM to a region in our own right in the mid 90's. However, we still remain part of the Scottish Division and our IAM Divisional Council Member is based in Scotland and therefore we still have close contact with our counterparts across the water.

Our aims are to improve driving on our roads and to encourage people from all walks of life and all age groups to take responsibility for their own safety on the roads as well as looking out for others.
